give me a break
With nine semesters of college under my belt (as of 3 pm today) I now have only one semester left of college until graduating! A tiny misunderstanding with my credit hours straightened out, I will get my college diploma with only 17 more credits (pending any failed classes= retake mishaps).
An email from my academic advisor notified me yesterday that, "You have not applied for graduation yet. The deadline was Nov 15th which means you will want to do that ASAP." Hahaha, oops! In my mind, ASAP means after Christmas break, so hopefully that won't be too much of a problem... If it is, I guess I won't graduate until August. Hahaha.
Now, I'm just ready for Christmas and a big long break!

i am happy thanksgivingful for:
I feel I should join the trend and write a post about what I am thankful for, I mean, "Thanksgivingful" for. I realize that I won't possibly be able to name everything, but I shall try.
First off, I am SO grateful for my family! This morning, after scriptures, we sat around the table eating the delicious breakfast my momma made. It started out normally, just chatting etc, but then we started to get silly. We repeated lines from movies (You've Got Mail, Finding Nemo, What Happens in Vegas) and laughed out loud. My momma and daddy left the table to do other things in the kitchen and Kati, Sarah, and I all lost it. I somehow ended up with a hair in my mouth, which made Kate nearly hyperventilate as she tried to relate a story about how she ended up with a hair in her mouth once when she was taking the sacrament. We were all hysterical at this point, I almost cried. Now, I get pretty silly sometimes, but I never laugh as hard as I can except when I'm with my family. I LOVE them. If nothing else, I love that I can be my normal, obnoxious self with them and they laugh right along with me. We have our rough times, when things aren't so happy, but at the end of the day, my Mom and Dad, my brothers and sisters are my best friends. I'm so grateful that I can be with them forever.
I am grateful for my friends. I'm afraid to say names specifically because I know I'll forget some, but they are all SO wonderful! They keep me laughing, they keep me happy, they make me feel loved. They put up with my shenanigans, they laugh when I'm not funny, they study with me in the library, the give me hugs. They are awesome! I have so many memories of laughing in the library, watching movies, sleeptalking, hiking, longboarding, cooking, concerts, puzzles, etc. You know who you are. You know you rock. Ya'll are the BEST!
I am grateful for all the opportunities that I've been given. I go to a great school where we can talk about the Gospel during the week. I belong to the true church. I've been taught the things I need to know so that I can return to Heavenly Father someday. I have a job that I love and that pays my bills. I have a car that has been especially reliable as I've been traveling a lot lately. Work, school, home, Salt Lake, this faithful little care runs well and plays music for me as I drive.
I am seriously so blessed.

some funny moments
1- i was in the library yesterday with a friend- it doesn't matter who it was- and i received a text from him/her. he/she was sitting about a foot from me, so i gave him/her a funny look and proceeded to read:
"um, awkward question. can you smell me?"
i laughed of course because i could not smell him/her and asked why they would ask that. the response: "because i can smell me."
haha, ok....?
2- my wonderful roommate provides me with many good laughs. not only is she hilarious, but she also talks in her sleep (i do as well, i just never hear what i say)! over the last several weeks, she has gone to bed several hours before me due to procrastination or slacking on my part (see previous post, or just note, that once again i am blogging instead of homeworking), so i've heard her say some awesome things. here is a sampling:
"such a good idea. this is SUCH a good idea. you are SO smart!"
"oh wow. fantastic. wonderful. that's amazing."
"HEEEEEE. ha ha ha ha ha. oh. that's so funny (said like on the bluh-dah video on youtube)."
oh katy how i love you. who will entertain me over thanksgiving break? i shall miss you desperately.
3- this actually happened a few weeks ago, but one day i was on my way to work. right as i pulled out of the driveway, i saw katy crossing the street on her way to campus. she was wearing her blue and white coat with the hood up because it was pretty cold. naturally, i honked at her and waved. she looked over at me and then looked away and kept walking. a little confused as to why she would ignore me, i honked again, this time motioning for her to come get in the car and i would drive her up to campus. again, she looked over and this time she took off her hood. turns out it wasn't katy after all. now some poor girl thinks that some creepy girl was trying to solicit her, hahaha. needless to say, i hit the gas and drove away as fast as i could!

almost done
being the huge slacker/procrastinator that i am, i naturally forgot about two papers and a test due this week in addition to the rough draft of my capstone. hahaha (i'm hysterical about this, not because it's hilarious, but rather because i'm writing this on approximately 2 1/2 hours of sleep last night).
so monday, i sit down to work on my capstone and all the sudden remember that i have a paper due the next day in history 221 about two books that i have not read yet, let alone picked out. so i head up to the library, pick out two books to write the paper on and proceed to read (skim) them and laugh my head of with study buddy, colby. after trying unsuccessfully to get it all done at the library, i head home to "read" the other book.
i woke up early the next morning and wrote my 221 paper only to receive an email about the paper that is due in my e-business class the next day on another book (this time, i already had the book). so i finished my reading for 221 and then started to work on my next paper before class. after class was over, i rushed home to work on my paper so that i could proceed to my next important task. false. i went up to salt lake to hang out with dallin. when i got home late that night, i stayed up to finish "reading" that book. and i did of course.
wednesday morning i woke up and went to work until one. then i came home, wrote and submitted my e-business paper, and then frantically started writing more for my capstone paper. eleven hours and 15 pages later (at almost 4 a.m.) i closed the laptop after numerous potty breaks, food breaks, phone breaks, and story breaks. my rough draft was still very rough, but at least i had a copy to submit. (and yes, i spent over $5 making enough copies to distribute to my class this morning for critiquing purposes).
7 a.m. this morning saw me opening my eyes to a brand new day. another day full of so many things that i hope i can get them done. a short rundown of the things i have to get done today:
1- submit 6 copies of my paper to professor and students in class at 9:30 (done)
2- read and submit written report for supplemental accounting lecture (done)
3- attend supplemental accounting lecture
4- take post-lecture quiz
5- finish my calligraphy assignment
6- study for and take my calligraphy test early
only then does my thanksgiving break start, wahoo! i'm off to a good start today by blogging instead of studying. oh, and i should probably shower too. yeah, i'm awesome like that.

# 6 and # 7
6- the BYU-Utah game- ok, but i'm actually not so excited for this. i'm more nervous... the way we've both been playing... not to mention the fact that season records and whatnot go right out the window in rivalry games. i don't want to say that i don't have faith in BYU to pull this one out, i just don't know if faith will be enough. so let's cross our fingers and hope that we win this thing!
7- going to see twilight with alison- and by this i mean, just spending time with my awesome sister. i'm not excited about the movie, i'm convinced it will be a flop, but A and i don't get to hang out much, so i'm just excited to spend time with her! she's kind of the best.

10 things i'm excited for in the next week
i love top ten lists!
1- the coldplay concert! one of my very best friends (ashlee) GAVE me her extra ticket to coldplay. she says it's my christmas and birthday present (for the next 5 years). i am so excited to go. coldplay is my all time favorite band, so i'm pretty stoked to be going
2- quote wars- my friend dallin and i always have these quote fights were we pick a movie and take turns quoting as many lines from it as we can. i always lose. i'm determined to win this week.
3- relief society sleepover- ok, i'm working on being more excited for this. in an effort to do so, kati and i volunteered our house for this. so on friday night, our relief society is driving to our house in lehi and we'll have a party/sleepover. service projects, games, movies, makeovers, and all the other super girly things i hate. i figure if i have a good attitude, it will be more fun
4- turning in my first draft for my capstone paper- at first, i meant this to be sarcastic, but i thought about it for a bit and decided i'm REALLY excited to turn it in. i'm just not so excited about writing it... it only has to be 25 pages though, so i figure it'll be a walk in the park (not!).
5- having thursday be my last day of class until after thanksgiving! i don't have class on mondays or fridays, and since thanksgiving week we only have two days of class and tuesday is friday classes, i won't have class again until the 2nd of december! (talk about run on sentances! i couldn't figure out how to say that without being confusing)

ok, so i thought i had a lot of exciting things coming up, but apparently not. i'll just leave it here though because a top 5 list is dumb (a half-filled top ten list is WAY cooler).
maybe i'll add to it as the week progresses

what did the skeleton say to the vampire?
...you suck!
kate and i tried to keep count of how many times we said "i hate halloween!" i think we both lost count around 30ish...
but despite my lack of love for this unholy holiday, i still participated. everyone else loves halloween, so i thought i'd give it a try (again). i dressed up thursday for the ward party, dressed up friday for the haynie's party, and i even carved a pumpkin and helped adam carve his. also, friday, at work we passed out candy for the mall trick-or-treaters. i tried to tell rhett that i hated halloween, but he laughed and said he couldn't take me seriously. i don't know if i'd take nearly naked cowboy seriously though...
conclusion: don't let these pictures fool you, i still don't like halloween very much. ask kate, ash, katy b, mike or colb if you don't believe me.
anyways, enough talk. here are the pics.

quirky? that's entirely possible
10 things you may not know (or want to know) about me:
1- unless it's a paper for school or something else important, i go out of my way to leave things uncapitalized (but i'm a stickler on punctuation). if open office tries to autocorrect, i undo it.
2- i'm consistently about 5 minutes behind schedule, but seldom consider myself as 'late.'
3- i can't leave things unread in my inbox. even if i haven't read it, i to change the email to 'mark as read'. if i don't i feel messy.
4- i can only fall asleep if i'm laying on my right side. everything else is very uncomfortable.
5- almost any movie has the capability of bringing tears to my eyes. happy, sad, sappy, whatever... i'll probably cry. if you don't believe me, just to kati. she's seen this happen MANY times. however, if i'm watching with boys, i'll try my darnedest to hold it in.
6- facebook/blog stalking: love it
7- i love everything awkward. i love making people feel awkward, i love feeling awkward. don't ask, i don't know why.
8- sending honeypots signed by other people makes me very very happy.
9- i've got mad procrastination skills (oh wait, everyone knows that already!) after several years in college, i've finely tuned these skills. i do a great job at putting something off (no matter the importance) until the last possible minute. homework, getting ready in the morning, leaving for work... you name it, i can come up with a way to procrastinate doing it.
10- i've recently come to the realization that i'm the mother figure in many of my relationships. for example:
-when i get home at night, the first thing i do is check to make sure kati is home and safe. i turn off the tv when she falls asleep with it on.
-i double check the deadbolt onthe door everynight (i don't want any strangers, or grant, breaking in).
-when colby rides his bike home from my apartment, i'll text him or ask him to text me to make sure he gets home safe.
-i tell people to not eat certain things because it might be unhealthy.
-i frequently tell people to do things themselves, but end up watching them over their shoulder to make sure they do it right.
etc. etc. etc. i can think of many more examples. i'm too young to be doing this...
what is something i don't know about YOU?

i'm a pack rat of sorts
i keep old notes/letters/etc around just cuz i hate to throw just about anything away. lauren's post about the break-up letter reminded me of a sweet love poem that brady mortensen and i found on the floor one morning, senior year of high school. obviously fake (brent keate and dan gray wrote it), and so i'm pretty sure we read it outloud to our class. it still makes me laugh.
for your enjoying pleasure:
To Mike:
The sun in my shadow
The rose to my thorn
My wonderful hunk
I was totally wrong by writing that poem
It made me cry all the way home.
I don't know why I wrote you that thing,
Cuz you are so nice, and to me, you do sing.
Something came over me, I don't know why
But to make this up to you, I will truly try
Because I realized after that long trail of tears
That I have been lonely without you over the year
How can I go on without you in my life
Because you could be my husband, and me, your wife
I really don't care what my boyfriend thinks
Because he is weird, obnoxious, and he really stinks
The only reason that I take him to be mine
Is because all the money, he really treats my fine.
But I shouldn't put money over the worth of a man's soul
And to be your love I will do anything, even pay a toll.
You should pound my boyfriend like a bozo the clown punching bag
And make fun of his mis-shaped head so he will be sad
Or even call him a hag
So he will be mad
What I'm trying to say is "Win me over"
But make sure I'm healthy and very sober
I just wanted to apologize for that mean mean letter
I hope I can kiss your wounds and make you feel better

44 oz ocean water
so mike knippers came into town this past weekend. we all got together at ashlee's house and had a great time. it is a night i'll not soon forget (ok, i don't think i'll EVER forget it. some things are imbedded in my mind permanently). mostly we just talked and laughed (hysterically), took a trip to sonic, almost froze to death, and nearly forgot dan on the way back. here are some pics from the joyous occasion. great to see you mikey!

you can sign up for this in church now???
sign up sheet in relief society:
would you like to go to the temple with someone?
name / apt / days and times
wow, how nice of them. a genius idea they should have thought of years ago. who knew it was so easy?? however, i think they should have had a slot for preferred partner... i was thinking hot scott or matt damon

10 things i love about my car
some of you may not have heard about my car adventures this week. for those of you who have, just skip the next paragraph.
on friday my car started blowing out a lot of grayish-blue smoke. i was concerned but didn't have time to think about it since i was leaving town. on sunday, my awesome brother ben called and said he was looking for a new car and would i want to buy his? i said i was interested but i needed to figure out some things. well on monday, en route to lehi, my car gave up the ghost (as in, needs a new engine). right after that happened, ben called to say that he'd found a new car so his old one was mine as soon as i wanted it and he told me where the key was. i just feel really blessed as far as the timing of everything goes, thanks so much ben!
SO--i am now a proud possessor of a 1996 Saturn SC2. let me just tell you a few of the things that i LOVE about this car:
1- it is NOT the same age as me (i'm a sucker for younger men)
2- the locks both lock AND unlock (imagine that...)
3- both seat belts are fully functional (BORING...)
4- it has a radio/cd/mp3 player (i won't have to sing outloud to entertain guests anymore! actually, i might miss that...)
5- it has a mirror on the passenger side
6- the headlights pop up when you turn them on (SO snazzy)
7- it has a spoiler (now, if only it had a hood scoop)
8- it has all 4 hubcaps (this is real luxury folks)
9- it has leather seats
10- it has power steering

look alikes
kati and i and our friends have had some GREAT laughs today going over old pictures of us. man, i used to be a HUGE dork! (and OBVIOUSLY i'm not now...) no, but honestly, i'm surprised mom let me out of the house somedays, i think I would have been embarrassed to be seen with me. clearly, i had an AMAZING fashion sense, hahaha.
that aside, there were two pictures we looked at where sarah and i look REALLY similar- at least I think so. (except for the fact that she's way less of a dork than i was.)
so take a look. what do you think? sisters???

lost
it happened again. LOST, i mean (i blame kati even though i know it technically isn't her fault). i stopped watching part way through season 3 and that's where i picked it back up. again, i blame kati (you know i love you dear). however, i'm now in a constant battle with myself . homework? or lost?... class? or lost?... haha. so far i haven't skipped any classes yet (which i've been known to do around 24 season), but i've been watching more than i should for sure...
i have my favorite characters (hurley, kate, jack of course, sawyer sometimes, sun and jin, etc), my favorite scenes ("what's your problem jumbo-tron?"--"shut up! red...neck...man..."), oh goll... i'm pretty pathetic, but i can't stop watching now!!!
oh why did i even start???

when my mom went to BYU, 'it' was the first floor (i believe). you know, the place in the library where you go to meet people. you want to ask a girl out, flirt, or just plain get to know them?? the first floor was your spot, baby. years later, when asked people would say it's the fifth floor. that is THE spot. well, the second floor was feeling a bit left out, it wanted a piece of the action. don't worry second floor, your day has come:
author's note: becki would like you to know that she does not condone this type of behavior. she believes that the library is strictly for studying or playing small jokes with old friends. she believes that if you want to meet new people you should go to the closest ward social. she keeps her headphones in at all times making her harder to approach. when people try anyways, she keeps her answers short and turns her music up louder.

"park"ing with ashlee and colby
another friday night resulted in the three of us sitting around with no conclusive plans. we didn't just want to sit around and watch a movie or play guitar hero. we wanted to DO something. being in provo, our options were limited and we decided to go to the park and 'just play'. setting out with cameras in hand, we soon found an abandoned beachball and he joined us on our quest for fun. his lacking ability to hold in air soon found him deserted farther down the road. at the park, we made our way over to the playground and had some grand adventures that we followed up with slurpees, dancing til we wanted to barf, and yet another viewing of The Burbs (it was colby's first time) accompanied with uncontrollable laughter and strict instructions not to repeat lines. over all it was a successful venture.
now to the pictures.
ashlee is smoldering as usual
there was a reason for colby's pose, but none of us can remember what it was...
as is standard, i am elegant and poised
could have been more cool, possibly, if you couldn't see the ground 2 inches beneath him...
i can't tell if ash thinks she is a frog or is just scared of heights (don't worry dear, we're only 4 feet up)
aw, friends!

beyonce
i offered to drive katy up to her orchestra class tonight and she felt bad for "making" me drive, so she tossed me the keys to her beautiful black celica, beyonce. and she said sorry for being such an inconvenience! ha. NO PROBLEM katy. ANYTIME...no really, anytime.
i've decided that once i graduate and get a daddy job, i'm getting me a celica. that is one sweet car. just imagine the havok i could have wreaked if i'd driven farther than a 1/4 mile, haha.
oh, and the first few days of school were alright too. my highlights this semester are my piano lessons and calligraphy class. i'm sure it's such a comfort to know that i'm getting the most out of my education ;D

conquering the iroquois
so dallin and i went for a scooter ride last night. dallin loves his scooter! it get's 100 miles to the gallon, so when we "filled up" his tank last night it cost him $4.52. well, we had some pretty awesome adventures on the scooter last night! take a look at the sweet pictures we took!
the first thing we did was put on our helmets. obviously (i'm all about safety mom). these are black dot helmets. bulletproof, of course (which comes in handy when the shooting starts).
the first thing we did was take the scooter off-roading. there is a huge dirt hill south of campus and we went for a ride. do not be fooled by this mellow looking hill, we almost died! apparently, scooter's don't off-road as well as dirt bikes. be careful not to roll
next, we cruised by the temple. it was beautiful. as our top speed going up the hill by the temple hovered around 15 mph, we got a nice long view. look at the sweet shot i got!
we decided to continue our ride up iroquois dr above the temple. this winding road is full of ups and downs, twists and turns. we felt like celebrities when people cheered as we passed. whistles and claps echoed in our ears and followed us up the street as we drove. they were so happy to see us! we were their heroes! our upward climb ended in a triumphant ascent to the end of street. as we zigged and zagged our way up the hill at a slowly decelerating 5 mph, we we slightly afraid that the engine would stall. however, after a slow climb and much holding of our breaths, we reached the top! we joyfully turned around and sped down the hill hitting 35 mph! wow! i was able to use the night vision on my camera and take a sweet shot of the end of our climb. the houses were pretty sweet.
we ended our drive by racing a minivan. as we sat at the light at 9th east and univ. pkwy, dallin revved his engine. the mom in the minivan to our right took his bait. she rolled down her window and trash talked to us. she claimed that we could never beat her off the line and that she would smoke us. we taunted her back and waited with great anticipation. as the light remained red, the tension grew. we threw glances back and forth, waiting for our moment to show this woman what we were made of. FINALLY, the light turned green and we were off!! not fast enough, however, that woman in her minivan proved correct in her ability to "smoke" us. she flew off the line like she was late for church and we were left eating her dust. next time, minivan mom, next time
tribute: this post is dedicated to my buddy dallin for his mad scootering skills and his ability to dance all things latiny. here is a picture that we took in our sweet helmets! don't we look awesome??

freerice.com
so i found this pretty awesome website.
lists of vocabulary words. you pick the definition. for every word you pick correctly, 20 grains of rice are donated to people in need in third world countries.
it's easy to play, it doesn't cost you anything but time. i've been reading about it and it seems pretty legit.
they say that 7000 grains of rice equals one cup of uncooked rice or about 3 cups cooked rice.
it's a non-profit site and here are some of the things they've used the grain for so far:
* In Bangladesh, to feed 27,000 refugees from Myanmar for two weeks.
* In Cambodia, to provide take-home rations of four kilograms of rice for two months to 13,500 pregnant and nursing women.
* In Uganda, to feed 66,000 school children for a week.
* In Nepal, to feed over 108,000 Bhutanese refugees for three days.
* In Bhutan, to feed 41,000 children for over 3 days.
* In Myanmar, to feed 750,000 cyclone affected people for 3 days.
click on the link to the right to play. but beware, it's pretty addictive! i donated 8,160 grains today. to date, almost 40 billion grains of rice have been donated, if my calculations are correct, that's over 17 million cups of rice. that's 11.5 million bowls of rice!
happy vocabulary!

dancing and birthdays
Well, the last few days have been pretty fun. Kati's birthday was Monday! Happy 20th K! I'm so glad you live with me! It's so fun to have you around.
Well, Monday night, we watched a movie after FHE and then had a little fun afterwards. There is a guy on YouTube who dances all over the world. It's pretty cool and his dance is ROCKIN! Here is the link, take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WmMcqp670s
So, we were talking about the movie and decided to try out his dancing. This is how we did. (Well, the vid's not that great. It's from a phone afterall...)
What do you think? Are we as good as him?
Tuesday night, Kati and I went out to dinner with some of our friends (Krista, Ashlee, and Randi), and we had a blast. I don't think I've laughed that hard in ages! You girls are TOO funny!
After dinner, Kati showed us the funniest YouTube video (clearly a favorite past time of ours...)! I nearly died laughing! Here it is for your enjoyment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpTWutrp5Xk
Then we looked at a few photos we found on engrish.com. These are Chinese translations to help us Americans out when we go visit.
A perfect end to the evening was Strictly Ballroom (your favorite Dad). "A bit of musicality, please!"
Happy Birthday Kate!

The Judd's
My good friends Andrew and Tara are headed to Maryland in a few weeks for Andrew to go to Med School. I'm going to miss them so much! Last night, we got most of the old gang together (everyone but Katy Brinkerhoff) for one last time to visit before they left. We had so much fun laughing and telling goofy stories. I'm going to miss them so much! I have so many great memories of Andrew and Tara, and I hope to visit them soon. Love you guys!
